Love Me Like The World Is Ending

hiya, when i watch Ben Lee play this song on a video clip it looks like he's playing up around 5th, 7th and 9th frets... without any capo. and it actually sounds like he's playin with a Dropped D (the E bass is tuned down). i think there's some alternating on the bass notes between the two chord positions. at times he seems to be moving only one finger, but for the life of me i can't figure out what he's doing! it's driving me nutz! as i wanna learn the song exactly as he plays it, not the converted versions that are around. any clues?
cheers

Hi there, Sammi--

The guitar is tuned to an Open D tuning. Because you sounded so enthusiastic and cheerful, I made you a partial Guitar Pro tab--just the intro, verse and first chorus. Maybe you can take it from there.

The tuning is indicated on the tab. Let me know how it works out for you. You need adobe reader or another pdf reader to view and print it. If you want to see it full size before printing, just expand to 100% in the viewer. You can get adobe reader free on their website.

by: Joan Armitrading

hi Lynne,
thanx for that song.... it looks really hard, but i'll have a go anyway. i've been a big fan of JA for many years.. saw her in concert in '70s she was awesome. that girl can sure play a geeetar!
i think she was the forerunner for Ani DiFranco and has influenced many ppls' styles.

D tuning
by: oops, i lost it

hi Lynne,
i seem to have lost the first reply you sent me in this thread... which was an answer to my original question about the 'right way' to play the Ben Lee song. it contained instructions for full D tuning and the tabs for the song. could you please send it again? i can only seem to remember how to do the partial D tuning.
i really must stop msging so late at nite, i lose things.
cheers

thanks, i thought the tuning wasn't standard!
by: Sammi

thanx Lynne,
ah, so i was partially right about the tuning! cool i thought i was goin nuts. it's so confusing when all the versions of the song you're looking for out there are set out/transposed into standard tunings, but my ears (and eyes) are telling me different. ok, but it's a full D tuning not just a dropped D.
ok now if i can just figure out how to read tablature. I never learned it. I've been playing by ear for 34 yrs and i teach guitar by ear. i don't know any real theory... but i learned some tuning changes.
thanx so much for your help.
cheers

by: Tabs

hi Lynne,
ah ok, well aren't i just having a lucky day?!! coz i swear it felt so weird reading that. i know i have some difficulties with formalised learning but that just made my head hurt! hahah
thanx for clearing it up. i'll give it another go.
another song? oh cool... ok well how about Joan Armitrading: Show Some Emotion? i know it's got a lot of guitar runs in it, which are very slick and fasssst.. but it's such a lush song, it'd be worth tryn to get some of it right and maybe coming up with my own rendition... just the chords would do!:)
cheers

Learning Tabs
by: Sammi

Hi Lynne, thanks for the link for learning how to read tablature. i read that page about 6 times and tried to do what it suggests, but i still don't get it. it says tabs are played from Right to Left.. but it doesn't read like that. it reads like they've split the neck down the centre and if you follow their explanation/instruction further you must read/play the tab numbers from L-R on the top strings(G,B,E).. but from R-L on the bottom strings(E,A,D). i think i'm going to have to get a friend to explain it to me in person, as it doesn't seem logical to me (yet).
i live in hope. haha
cheers

RESPONSE
Sammi--

OH MY! THANK YOU!

It seems that I made a typo! It should read "from left to right" then the example makes sense. I sincerely apologize for the confusion I have caused you. The page has been fixed now.

To show my appreciation, I will help with another song if you wish.

Lynne
