Light goes through spruce soundboard

Just purchased a Martin LX1RE and when I put a strong desk lamp to the soundboard, the light goes right through the top and you can see it through the sound hole. Is this normal? Is the spruce so thin that the light actually goes through? This is not just one area so it can't be a crack in the top. The light goes through all parts of the soundboard. Thanks.
