How to play the Melody of a Song (If You Know the Chords)

If I'm just given chords to play, how do I play the melody of the song? I've learned how to play piano since I was 10, and have always played with sheet music, but given chords, I'm lost. Any simple, good advise will help.

Can you sing the melody while you are playing the chords? If so, sing or hum each part of the melody and then see if you can pick out the notes on the piano.
