Hi,
My name is Zach and I was wondering if there is a way to make my drums quieter when playing gigs in small areas other then turning the guitar amps up or just playing softer? Do mics help make them quieter or just louder? Please help.
ANSWER
I sympathize with you. It is very difficult to play quietly with the same feeling as when you can play louder.
Unfortunately, no matter what you do to acoustic drums, (mics, triggers, etc.) you are still going to hear the same volume.
I think the trick is to learn to play with the same velocity from a shorter distance. In other words, hit the same way, but keep your sticks lower.
That is the only way I know for acoustic. If this is a huge problem, you might consider getting electronic drums.
Best Wishes,
Lynne
