How Can I Learn to Play Guitar?

I am interested much in playing guitars and want to know if you can really help with that..i have done a bit on that at senior school and unfortunately did not have much practice on it.also want to produce and write songs.actually i did some simple few chords-the home chords and an introduction on transcription.
