Headphone Guitar Amplifier

hello .. i got an electric guitar in gift but i did not get any amplifier with it.. when i searched for amplifier i came to know that they are way too expensive for me to buy.. then i saw a headphone guitar amplifier and i dont know weather do i need a proper amplifier to use this headphone guitar amplifier or this thing alone can be used for my guitar.. i just want to learn to play it so i dont mind if only i get to hear it.. please reply soon ..
