Handicap playing

A friend of mine had an accident five years ago and he is now paralyzed from the waist down. He used to be a drummer and he would like to play the drums again but he needs to find an apparatus that he can use with his hands to create the bass drum sound. He has seen Gerling's mouthpiece but does not want to use that he would like to be able to use his hands or arms if there is something he could build to be able to play the bass drum with his hands or arms. Do you have any ideas that would help him to achieve this. I really appreciate any advice you could give. Thank you so much.
