Drum Electronics for Live Performance

Hey I was wondering about some of the stuff that i might need when preforming live. I have noticed a lot of drummers have a table set up next to them with a laptop on it and sometimes different electronic things like kind of look like small mixing boards. What are the laptops for in a live performances and what are some other electronic things I might want to consider?

A drum trigger set up and a sound module would be a great start.

You can check out the DDTTKIT Drum Trigger Kit and pair it with the Roland TD9 Percussion Sound Module.
