1960’s HARMONY 4 string guitar

Hi I have this guitar that was my grandfathers. It is missing the pick guard and it looks like it needs to be refinished. Is it a good idea to do this?

Refinishing it would likely change the value. The question is -- How much is it worth in present condition. You can find this out by going to Blue Book for Guitars. If you just want to keep it, by all means refinish it or, even better, have it done by a professional.
This guitar is called a tenor guitar and is fingered like a ukulele.
